National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Red Ribbon Week

Yá’át’ééh! This is a message from Miss Navajo Nation 2010-2011, Winifred Bessie Jumbo. Please be aware that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Please do not let domestic violence become a part of your lifestyle and home. Our ancestors did not let their loved ones suffer from the actions of domestic violence. We are only blessed with one body throughout our lifetime. A relationship between two holy beings is a sacred partnership and we, as Navajo people need to respect our bodies, because our bodies are our temples. Please take the time to let your parents and guardians know that you appreciate all their hard work and commitment to helping you live a healthy and safe lifestyle. Remember that domestic violence impacts the people surrounding you, such as your children.

Also, it is Red Ribbon Week, so please pay respect to your body by being drug and alcohol free, because you have so much to live for and accomplish. Lastly, it is a very important time for our Navajo Nation, as citizens we have the right to vote and we should take advantage of that right by voting for our next leaders. Our newly elected officials will be representing us to voice our opinions and concerns. Please take the opportunity to vote in Navajo Nation General Election on November 2, 2010. Please respect one another and live by the teachings of Sá’ah Naagháí Bik’eh Hózhóón and T’áá Hó Ajít’éego. ‘Ahéhee’!
